Indigo Tie Dye Shibori for Beginners

Come join Catherine Ruhl and learn the ancient art of Shibori Indigo Tie Dye.

This class is suitable for beginners and tons of fun!

Please bring two small personal items to dye such as t-shirts, or tea towels (Pre-washed 100% cotton is best.) Items will be dyed at the venue and must be washed at home.

Other fibers that work well with indigo are: linen, rayon, viscose, hemp, modal, or other cellulose fibers. Please note- polyester will NOT accept the dye.

What you will learn:

• How to fold and prep your t-shirts

• How to prepare a pre-reduced indigo vat

• Washing instructions and take-home info for making your own vat

* DRESS FOR MESS! Please wear appropriate clothing.

Catherine Ruhl is a textile artist based in Jersey City NJ. She has a BFA in Fashion Design from Pratt Institute. She has been dyeing for 8+ years and has a YouTube Channel dedicated to DIY dyeing. Her work has been featured in West Elm, Pottery Barn, and the Brooklyn Flea.
