From Farm Stand to Studio

Mar 13, 2018 | DIY, outdoor living

Our resident entrepreneurs are always coming up with creative ideas at Calgo Gardens, so when photographer Diana Lang approached us about an outdoor studio, we couldn’t wait to see what she had in mind. The plan was to upscale and recycle an unloved farm stand to create an outdoor space for her photography.

A lot of hard work, imagination, and elbow grease transformed the structure into a dream studio space. A fresh coat of paint brightened the wood, and vintage windows from Calgo’s private collection provide protection from the elements and instant style.

The high ceilings are perfect for hanging backdrops and props like the swing Diana used for a spring session. The openness of the building’s sides create a dreamy, soft, aura that is difficult to recreate with artificial lights. Photographers love this flattering light.

Photographer Diana loves the versatility of the space. The covering provides shade but still offers beautiful natural lighting for all types of subjects and sessions. The height makes it perfect to photograph dogs—with the added bonus that canines love the confines of the space without being in a studio. Humans also seem to relax more easily outdoors when they aren’t subjected to the studio lights.

The outdoor studio is a work in progress. Diana will continue to work her magic as the space grows and evolves to suit her needs. For the moment the rustic elegance of the the studio structure fits right into Calgo Gardens’ landscape.

Calgo Gardens is grounded in the belief that nature, art, and positive energy feed our spirits. If “earth” without “ART” is “eh,” Calgo chooses to nurture earth’s ART.
