Living Life Simply and Sustainably

Feb 6, 2020 | Gardening, General, Health & Wellness, Recipes, Special Events

Sustainable living. We hear the term often, but what does it really mean? Simply put, sustainable living is a lifestyle choice in which one consciously chooses to reduce their use of the earth’s natural resources.

Rhonda Tomko, of Trees By Streams Micro Farm, is committed to living life simply and sustainably. She believes that when you eat local and eat natural foods, you eat well. Getting as close as possible to the source of your food is a great way to live more sustainably. And there’s nothing closer to “the source” than growing your own food.

Planning a four season garden is one step to take to reduce the size of your footprint, and you can learn how to plan a yearlong garden and harvest food all 12 months of the year at Rhonda’s workshop on February 19. In this workshop, Rhonda will explain how to plan and prepare during the month of February so that you can enjoy the freshest produce possible from your own garden. Notebooks, worksheets and personalized plans will give you the tools to start right away

Taking sustainability to the next level…

Knowing how to cook the foods you grow will entice you to make your own food. Here’s where Chef Heidi of The Tulip Tree Cafe comes in. At the workshop Chef Heidi will demonstrate various ways to prepare the food harvested from your garden. Learn simple and delicious recipes that make living and cooking sustainably, easy and fun.

Calgo Gardens is grounded in the belief that nature, art, and positive energy feed our spirits. If “earth” without “ART” is “eh,” Calgo chooses to nurture earth’s ART. Our style and feel is the result of consciously living our philosophy—harmony by design. eARTh will be alive with posts about Calgo-style garden ideas, plants and flowers we love, do-it-yourself projects, new items from THE BARN—and all the dirt (and fun!) that’s happening at Calgo!
